Elon Musk Claims Trump Wants to Shut Down US Foreign Aid Agency
Elon Musk has stirred controversy once again, claiming that former President Donald Trump supports shutting down the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) the country’s main agency for global humanitarian and development assistance.
Speaking during an event on X (formerly Twitter) early Monday, Musk said he discussed USAID with Trump, who allegedly agreed to dismantle the agency. “I want to be clear,” Musk said. “I’ve reached out to him multiple times. I said, ‘Are you sure?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ So we’re shutting it down.'
While Trump has not explicitly said that USAID should be disbanded, his recent comments suggest he is highly critical of the agency. On Sunday, he told reporters that he believes the organization is run by “radical lunatics.”
The comments have added to growing uncertainty about the future of USAID, raising questions about the potential impact on global humanitarian efforts and the broader role of U.S. foreign aid.
